Media Consultants is led by two principals, Melanie Miller and Chuck Wolf, who direct a team of veteran instructors, experienced role-players, network-quality videographers, and NIMS-trained public information professionals. Our team of former news broadcasters, journalists, and videographers have major market media experience, so we know the questions that "real reporters" will ask.
Melanie Miller is President of Media Consultants. Melanie has more than 25 years of broadcast news experience, most recently as News Director of KTRH NewsRadio 740 AM in Houston. She chaired Houston's Emergency Alert System (EAS), served on the Houston LEPC, and helped develop Wally Wise Guy to teach children how to Shelter In Place. Melanie co-chaired the U.S. Coast Guard's Public Information Work Group for oil spills and hazmat releases into Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Melanie and Chuck served as Deputy PIO/JIC Managers for the Hurricane Katrina evacuation shelters in Houston where 27,000 Louisiana evacuees were fed, clothed, and sheltered in September 2005. The Joint Information Center coordinated media briefings and interviews with more than 680 news reporters from 16 countries.
Chuck Wolf is Vice President of Media Consultants. Chuck has more than 35 years of broadcast news experience, most recently as News Director at KIKK 96 FM Radio in Houston. Chuck co-chaired the Houston/Galveston Regional PIO Network, serves on the Deer Park and Fort Bend County LEPCs, and is the "Voice of the CAER Line" (281-476-2237). A certified NIMS Instructor, Chuck is a graduate of the "Advanced Public Information Officer" course at FEMA's Emergency Management Institute, and teaches Basic and Advanced PIO/JIC courses at Sam Houston State University. He served on the National Response Team's JIC Work Group that developed national guidance on how to set up and operate a Joint Information Center under the National Incident Management System.
Deb Hensel is a Print Media Relations Specialist for Media Consultants. Deb spent more than 20 years as a news reporter for the Houston Post, Houston Chronicle, Reuters and Agence France Presse, and as a magazine editor for the Greater Houston Partnership. In her print journalism career, Deb has covered such diverse topics as business, crime, courts, education, entertainment, environment, government and national politics. She has interviewed actors, authors, ambassadors, Presidents, and CEOs of several Houston companies. Deb has worked as an Editor of technical documents for the oil and gas industry, and has been a member of our Media Consultants team since 2013, role-playing as a newspaper reporter, community resident, and employee family member. As a freelance writer/editor of website content, Deb uses multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Instagram and Pinterest.
Bob Gresser is an Instructor and Broadcast Media Relations Specialist for Media Consultants. Bob has more than 20 years of broadcast news experience as an award-winning News Anchor/Reporter at KTRH, CNN, KTSA, and KIKK Radio. A certified NIMS Instructor, Bob has developed NIMS-compatible Incident Management Plans, Public Information Plans, and Family Notification and Assistance Plans for oil/petrochemical clients including ChevronPhillips, Freeport LNG, Intercontinental Terminals, Rentech Nitrogen, Pacific Drilling, Sequitur Energy, and TPC Group. Bob and Chuck spent four months as Transocean’s JIC representatives in the Unified Area Command’s Joint Information Center for the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Bob regularly supervises the Simulation Cell of our community, government, and media role-players during drills and exercises.
Patti Gras is a Bilingual Media Relations Specialist for Media Consultants. Patti has 28 years of broadcast experience as a reporter, producer, anchor and host for Fox, Telemundo, Warner Cable, and KUHT-TV (PBS) where she won seven Emmy awards. She earned three Master’s degrees in journalism, business administration, and international management from elite universities. Fluent in four languages, Patti has role-played as Spanish and French-speaking reporters, community residents, and employee family members during training and exercises. She can translate our training materials and video scripts, and serve as a bilingual on-camera or voice-over talent for video projects produced by her company, Love Smart Living Media
Dale Samuelsen is a Videographer/Editor and Media Relations Specialist for Media Consultants. He has worked with Media Consultants since 2008, shooting and editing client videos and role-playing as a TV news videographer for media training, drills and exercises. Dale is NIMS-certified in IS-700, 702, and 100 training. He has provided live webinar feeds of our classroom training seminars and international video conferencing during drills/exercises. Dale has more than 15 years of video production experience and has owned his own video production firm, Sweetwater Video Productions, since 2001. Prior to that, he was the Executive Producer for The Health Channel. Dale has produced videos for a variety of clients in the Houston area including Akzo Nobel, Baylor College of Medicine, City of Houston, DuPont, Fort Bend County, State of Texas Department of State Health Services, and Texas Children’s Hospital.
Diane Sheridan is an Instructor and Community Relations Specialist for Media Consultants. Diane is a Professional Facilitator of seven Community Advisory Councils/Panels in Texas and Kansas, helping 100 petrochemical companies communicate face-to-face with their communities for more than three decades. Diane served nine years as a charter member of the Chemical Manufacturers Association’s Responsible Care Public Advisory Panel. She is a member of the Emergency Management and Communications Committee for the East Harris County Manufacturers Association (EHCMA). Diane has supervised Community role-players during drills/exercises and developed a Community Outreach training program for petrochemical facilities to educate their nearby neighbors.
